The COMPOVERT project was recently highlighted at a seminar held at the A6K technology hub in Charleroi. On this occasion, Mohamed Boudifa, a researcher at CRITT-MI, shared the project’s latest findings with representatives from both academia and industry who had gathered to discuss cutting-edge technologies, including plasma, lasers, additive manufacturing and composites.

 

Plasma treatment of natural fibres offers an innovative solution for optimising the performance of composite materials. By modifying the surface of the fibres, without affecting their internal properties, it improves their adhesion to hydrophobic polymer matrices. Thanks to the increase in surface energy and the introduction of functional groups, this technology promotes better fibre-matrix compatibility, leading to composites that are stronger, more durable, and better suited to current industrial requirements.

Through these developments, COMPOVERT reaffirms its commitment to more sustainable materials and processes, whilst strengthening competitiveness and innovation within the cross-border industrial sector including France, Wallonia and Flanders.
