A COMPOVERT cross-border workshop was held on November the 20th in Gembloux, Wallonia, in University of Liège GxBAT.
This event offered an excellent opportunity to explore several high-level initiatives in the field of biocomposites. We are sincerely grateful to Professor François Delattre from the Université Littoral Côte d’Opale and to Ms. Barbara Gall from company UPM for their outstanding presentations on flax-based gums and composites, and on the industrial challenges associated with lignin, respectively.
The project partners presented COMPOVERT’s latest developments, covering the entire biocomposite development chain: modification of raw materials (polymer matrix, lignin and fibres), design and implementation of materials, and their characterisation.
The symposium also strengthened the links between COMPOVERT and the INTERREG France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen projects VALCEMAT and OBIWAN, which presented their work on the valorisation of cellulose and the conversion of agricultural waste into chemical products through biogas.
The day was rich in exchanges and perspectives, further confirming the dynamism of the cross-border bio-based materials sector.
